FAMILY VIDEO CLIPS
All Dating From Before the Year 2000

By Neal R. Wagner

Introduction. These clips are from the early days of the CALIWAG family: Debbie, Neal, Nate, Ian, and Bethany. We still have 10 ancient VHS tapes with "something" on them. There are another 13 tapes officially provided by different groups: 7 ballet tapes, 2 "La Posada" tapes, and 4 "Show Stoppers" tapes. I only looked at 7 of the 10 general tapes. (The remaining 3 tapes don't seem promising.) It was a huge effort to fast-forward through garbage looking for anything interesting. I ended up with 40 clips from those tapes. Most of the clips are in pretty good shape, considering. These are in Apple's MOV format. The whole batch takes up about 700 meg of storage. (I don't know why the clips are so large.)

How did I create the tapes? I used my iPhone to record the VHS as it played. That of course is not a good way to get quality, but still most of the clips are "good enough" to be interesting.

Ian and others suggested getting one or more tapes converted to some good digital format. The problem is that mostly there's very little of interest on any single tape or even on all of them. Trust me, I pawed and fast-forwarded through all manner of stuff (a generous word).

These clips were originally on my iPhone. When I viewed them on my Linux system a third of them (or so) had problems and were messed up in various ways. I now realize that they need to be viewed on an iPhone (or presumably a Mac).

Um, so here they are:
