The Power of Parable |
I could not possibly summarize everything
that Crossan says about parables. You would have
to read the book. The author starts by talking about
parables in general. He then presents four different
kinds of parables, with numerous examples:
Riddle Parables
Example Parables
Challenge Parables
Attack Parables
Part I of the book focuses on examples of
these types of parables, especially parables from the
bible by Jesus, but not limited to that.
He shows that Jesus used only challenge parables.
An Interlude studies how versions of the story
of Caesar at the Rubicon grew and changed over time,
illustrating the same for any story, adding fictional elements.
Part II studies how the four gospels of the bible
can be regarded as parables about Jesus.
Finally, an Epilogue summarizes it all.
