This is at best an adequate elementary textbook in the area. Of course the subject matter of programming languages is changing, but not this much, and the basics are static. He has come out with a new edition roughly every 2 years for 20 years. (Publishers force authors to sign contracts that require regular new editions of textbooks, and if an author refuses, by the contract the publisher can get another author to put our a new edition. The motive is obvious: so that students will need to buy new books. Nevertheless this is an extreme case.)
