Ants can live under water for up to seven days. [Ants can live underwater for up to two weeks, according to Animal Diversity Web. Ants have an incredible ability to adapt to their environmental surroundings, including water. When exposed to underwater conditions, ants enter a stage deeper than sleep. Their need for oxygen to breathe and live plummets, enabling them to survive temporarily underwater. Because of this, filling an ant hole in the yard with water will not drown the colony.]
