CS 3323 Topics in Programming Languages

• Lisp:
  • Learn elements of the Lisp language.
  • Learn a functional, recursive programming style.
  • Prepare for future work in Lisp, particularly in artificial intelligence.

    Note: Advanced aspects of Lisp, specific applications to AI, and the study of Lisp environments are not goals, mainly because of lack of time.

• C++:
  • Study of details of the C++ language, including the ``better C'' part.
  • Introduction to object-oriented programming, as supported by C++.

    Note: Experience with a large programming project in C++, as well as experience with C++ class libraries are not goals, again mainly because of lack of time.

• Java:
  • Study the use of the Java language and its environment.
  • Study of the use of Java on the Web, including applets.

    Note: This part of the course is supposed to be more fun than the other parts.
